Which Double Stroller is Right for Your Family?

A double stroller is a must-have for active families with two (or more) kids under 4. Whether you're shopping for twins, siblings or a nanny share, we'll tell you all you need to know in order to pick the best stroller for your family.

What are the Types of Double Strollers?

There are 3 types of double strollers:

  • Side-by-side strollers: This type of stroller features 2 identical seats that are next to each other. Side-by-side strollers are easier to maneuver than tandem strollers and they typically have higher seat weight limits for older or larger children. They tend to be huge and offer less opportunities for customization.
  • Tandem strollers: This style has one seat in front of the other. It's a great option for fitting through narrow doorways and folds up smaller than a side-by-side stroller. Usually the seats do not offer the same space and amenities. For example one seat may have more legroom, a snack tray or the ability to attach an infant car seat. Since this stroller style has a longer frame, it’s hard to turn.
  • Convertible strollers: Convertible strollers can be used as a single stroller or converted into a double stroller by adding on a second seat. Some can even accommodate a third child with the addition of a bench or stand-on board. These strollers are typically more expensive but this style is a great upfront investment that can grow with your family.
