In addition to our standard quality checks, we worked with a car seat design, engineering and safety consultant over an extensive 12-month research and testing period to create a proprietary 30-point safety inspection process for gently used car seats.

Our In-House CPST
Our Director of Customer Care, Amanda Brown, is a certified Child Passenger Safety Technician (CPST). Amanda oversees our 30-point proprietary GoodBuy™ Car Seat Safety Check process, which is performed by GoodBuy Gear certified technicians on every gently used car seat before it is listed for resale.
The GoodBuy™ Car Seat Safety Check
GoodBuy Gear certified technicians are trained by our in-house CPST and examine every gently used car seat before listing it for resale.
All sellers must sign a legally binding attestation certifying they’re the original owner of the car seat and that it has never been in a motor vehicle crash.
All car seats accepted for resale must be more than two years from expiration and we closely monitor for any recalls.
In addition to our standard quality checks, every gently used car seat must pass all 30 GoodBuy™ Gear Car Seat Safety Checks to qualify for resale.

What’s the difference between an open box and gently used car seat?
An open box car seat has no signs of use. The packaging and box have been opened and the item may or may not have been removed. These products are typically floor models, display models or returns that have been inspected for safety, functionality and cleanliness. Gently used car seats on the other hand have previously been used, but all gently used car seats listed for sale on goodbuygear.com have passed the GoodBuy™ Car Seat Safety Check.
When should I change my child’s car seat?
The NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) provides nationwide recommendations which you can review on the NHTSA website. All car seats have different height and weight requirements, so it’s important to be aware when your child is nearing them depending on the car seat you purchase.
What are the requirements to sell my gently used car seat with GoodBuy Gear?
Selling your gently used car seat with GoodBuy Gear is easy! Simply signup for a selling service here (you can either drop-off your gently used car seat when it's convenient for you or schedule a pickup). We will email you detailed instructions after you sign up to sell with us, but know you will also need to complete a Car Seat Attestation Form certifying that your gently used car seat has never been in a motor vehicle crash. To fill out the attestation you will need to provide the car seat’s Serial Number and Manufacturer Date. Your gently used car seat must have only been cleaned by approved cleaners—check the owners manual for cleaners which are approved for your specific car seat. At the time of your pickup or drop-off please include the manual for the car seat being sold. If you do not have the original manual you can print out a version from the internet. If no manual is provided a $5 Manual Fee will be applied in addition to the $10 Processing Fee, which will both be deducted from your payout. You will receive additional reminders and instructions about your selling appointment following your completion of the attestation form.
How do I know if you will accept my gently used car seat?
Because we perform 30 safety checks on every gently used car seat before listing it for resale, you will not know if your gently used car seat is accepted for resale until after we have performed the GoodBuy™ Car Seat Safety Check. Please keep in mind that we only accept gently used car seats that have never been in a motor vehicle crash and are more than two years from expiration and not recalled. Your gently used car seat must have only been cleaned by approved cleaners—check the owners manual for cleaners which are approved for your specific car seat. Please note, any car seat that is received without a signed attestation will be donated. You will have 7 days from the time of notification to pick up your gently used car if it does not pass the GoodBuy™ Car Seat Safety Check.
