4moms MamaRoo vs. UPPAbaby Mamaroo: What Changed and What to Know
If you’ve been searching for the 4moms MamaRoo and wondering why it suddenly looks different, you are not imagining things.
UPPAbaby acquired 4moms in 2024 and officially integrated the brand in 2025, so the MamaRoo now lives on as the UPPAbaby Mamaroo Smart Swing.
For parents, that means the same core idea is still here. A tech-forward baby swing designed to mimic real parent motions. The newer version just adds a few helpful upgrades.
If you are deciding between an older 4moms model and the current UPPAbaby version, here is exactly what to know.
Why is the MamaRoo now an UPPAbaby product?
UPPAbaby acquired 4moms to expand into smart baby gear, then brought the products fully under the UPPAbaby name in 2025.
So if you already own a 4moms MamaRoo, it did not become obsolete overnight. It is simply an earlier version of the same product family.
Key differences between the 4moms MamaRoo and UPPAbaby Mamaroo

Both versions are built around the same core idea: five parent-inspired motions, adjustable speeds and app-connected controls.
Here is what is different:
- Updated motion names: The original 4moms motions included Car Ride, Kangaroo, Tree Swing, Rock-a-Bye and Wave. The newer UPPAbaby version keeps the same motions, but has changed the names to Cruise, Bounce, Sway, Rock and Wave.
- Refreshed branding and design details: The current swing still looks recognizably like a MamaRoo, but the UPPAbaby version has a more polished presentation. Depending on which older 4moms model you are comparing it to, you may notice updated colorways, branding and toy styling rather than a totally reimagined seat.
- Enhanced app features: Both versions offer app control, but the UPPAbaby version includes a more updated experience with features like timers, saved presets and MotionSync technology.
- Newborn insert included: The UPPAbaby Mamaroo Smart Swing includes the newborn insert in the box, which makes it easier to use from day one without an extra add-on purchase. The 4moms MamaRoo did not include the insert with purchase.
- Higher price: The new retail price for the UPPAbaby Mamaroo is $299.99, whereas the 4moms MamaRoo retailed for about $200.

What parents should know before buying
This is one of those baby items that can be a lifesaver during the newborn stage. It is especially helpful when you need a safe place to set your baby down while you eat, reset or help another child.
That said, there are a few important things to keep in mind:
- It is not a safe sleep space. UPPAbaby says the Mamaroo is not intended for sleep and babies should be removed for sleeping and placed in a safe sleep space instead.
- Maximum weight limit is 25 lbs or when baby tries to climb out
- Use the most reclined position for newborns. UPPAbaby says the Mamaroo is designed for use from birth, but it should be reclined to the most reclined position until baby has head and neck control. The included newborn insert should also be used for added support and comfort.
- Use it on the right surface. The Mamaroo should be used on firm, flat floors only, never on a countertop, bed or sofa.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are UPPAbaby and 4moms the same company?
Not exactly. UPPAbaby acquired 4moms in 2025 and took over select products including the MamaRoo swing. The 4moms brand name has been retired, but the product continues under UPPAbaby.
Is the UPPAbaby Mamaroo worth the higher price?
For most families, yes. You are getting the newborn insert included, a 3-year warranty and a sleeker design.
How long can my baby use the Mamaroo?
Both versions are designed for use from birth up to 9 months or 25 lbs, whichever comes first. Use the swing in its most reclined position until your baby has head and neck stability, which typically develops around 4 months.
Has the 4moms MamaRoo been recalled?
Yes. 4moms MamaRoo versions 1.0 through 4.0 (model numbers 4M-005, 1026 and 1037) and the RockaRoo (model 4M-012) are subject to an active recall. The hazard: when not in use, the restraint straps can dangle below the seat, posing a strangulation risk to nearby crawling infants. If you own one of these models and have a crawling infant at home, stop using it immediately and move it out of reach. Affected owners can register for a free strap fastener repair kit at uppababy.com/mamaroo-4moms-recall. You can check your model number on the bottom of the swing.
Can I still buy the 4moms MamaRoo?
Not new. The 4moms brand is discontinued. Open box and pre-owned versions are available through resale platforms like GoodBuy Gear, where every item goes through a quality check before being listed.
The bottom line
The MamaRoo did not disappear. It got a refresh. The UPPAbaby version keeps the five motions that made the original a staple in so many nurseries, adds the newborn insert right in the box, backs it with a 3-year warranty and gives it a cleaner look.
